Help yourself to wine from the fridge, pinch a book from the library and settle in for a cosy afternoon in the glasshouse. Marked through Mr and Mrs Smith as a Urban Gustavian Hideout, Ett Hem in Stockholm is the new benchmark for laid-back Swedish hospitality.
Owner Jeanette Mix bought the elegant townhouse, originally a private residence built in 1910 for an official and his wife who was an avid collector of objects, textiles and furniture from all over Sweden. This elegant yet eclectic style was kept for the hotel who opened its doors to guests in 2012.
Ett Hem translates as ‘a home’ which is a highly suitable name for the hotel with its warm, welcoming interior with a carefully curated mix of art, vintage furniture and Scandinavian design classics.
The hotel was designed by acclaimed British interior designer Ilse Crawford who is also known from her work of the interior design of Soho House. Crawford presented Ett Hem with “It is a place to stay for the modern traveller, a home away from home.”
The hotel has 12 individually decorated rooms, all possessing a warm feel with a sophisticated blend of contemporary and vintage materials such as cane, wood, leather and velvet in gold, brown and cream tones.
The largest suite has a four-poster bed, its own tiled stove and a marble bath
With a well stocked library and warming fires in winter, the atmosphere is both relaxing and homely.
The garden invites you to sit down and relax with a book or to enjoy a aperitivo before dinner.
Although elegant there’s a liberating low key feel throughout the hotel. The chef cooks a menu of today depending on seasonal and local ingredients being sourced and meals are served at the communal kitchen table.
Finish your meal with coffee and cake in the garden patio.
Double rooms from SEK 3.482 (£285) including breakfast. Home-baked cake and soft drinks are also available throughout the day. And although this stylish hotel might has more of a grown-up feel to it, children are most welcome. Free cots or extra beds can be added for and extra charge and babysitting can be arranged.
Ett Hem is located on Sköldungagatan, in Stockholm’s upmarket Lärkstan district, just moments away from Stureplan with its wealth of shops, restaurants and museums as well as the beatiful Vanadislunden Park.
And when in Stockholm, be sure to visit Gamla Stan, the Old Town, the Royal Palace and the Vasa Museum.
