Moose safari and enchanting waterfalls in Norwegian alps, Hemsedal.

August and the month of holiday is soon approaching. If you haven’t decided what to do yet we thought we’d recommend going to Hemsedal in Norway, for a adventurous and active family holiday. Renown for being one of the top ski resorts in Northern Europe, the mountain settlement is well worth a visit in the summer too.

Where to stay: There’s still chalets available for rent. One luxury chalet we found in Skarsnuten, Hemsedal had 7 bedrooms (sleeps 18), with a large eat in kitchen, several fireplaces (with logs included in the rental), cinema room, large terrace with a spectacular view, sauna and outdoor jacuzzi. Prices from €760 per week. You may hire with a chef. See more at finn.no

Hemsedal has several hotels, some with indoor swimming pools. There’s also the more traditional and simple self catering Norwegian mountains huts available in the area too. Prices from €127 per week.

What to do: Hemsedal is perfect for an active holiday in the mountains with friends and family. Try biking and hiking in the beautiful mountains, or go for fly fishing for trout in one of the many rivers and mountain lakes. The ski lift is open and will take you to the top of the mountain for a breathtaking view over the valley. You can go horse riding or on a moose-safari. Hemsedal also have 2 golf courses to keep you busy from dusk to down.
We recommend to try out the various of mountains farms, called “seter” and “støl”, open for tourists as pet farms and cafes. You can also buy local produce there. Hemsedal village has a good numbers of shops, cafes and restaurants, Hemsedal cafe being our favourite.

How to get there: We recommend flying to Norway with British Airways, Norwegian and SAS. It’s a 220km, ca. 3,5 hours drive from the nearest airport, Oslo Gardermoen. For more information, visit hemsedal.com
