Pitti Bimbo Florence in January 2013 showing AW13

Pitti Bimbo is an international children’s fashion trade show held every two years in the historical Fortezza da Basso in the old town of Florence, Italy. Founded in 1975, Pitti Bimbo have more than 500 exhibitors and 10.000 visitors. The historical setting of Florence offer an extraordinary platform for presenting a complete overview of international children’s fashion.
Little Scandinavian went along to cover the Scandinavian brands exhibiting at the 76th edition of Pitti.
The fair is situated on the outskirts of the old town of Florence, only a short stroll from many lovely boutique hotels. When passing the gates of the old fortress and the Apartment section is appearing in front of you, the excitement build up inevitably.

Well inside the fortress the whole set up is a mix of historical greatness and intriguing futuristic architecture. First we were eager to see Pale Cloud, exhibiting in the Apartment section, with the AW13 collection inspired by Norse Mythology and Nordic Goddesses. Apartment offers leading brands to exhibit in more private and intimate surroundings, where you quietly can emerge yourself in details, fabrics and finishes. And that’s exactly what Pale Cloud is all about and that sets them apart from other brands. Still fairly new on the fashion scene this brand has made a name in the fashion world on record time by producing exquisite fashion for girls. Only the finest of fabrics are tailored together into the most precious garments.

Back out into the fresh air, crossing the piazza inside the fortress, passing leading British brands such as Stella McCartney, on our way to the Sport Generation, featuring the best brands in sports and activewear.

New Generals were exhibiting in Sport Generation. For AW13 they are staying true to their black signature style with the new collection being no exception. Although a few shades included, like bright blue for the boys and lavender for the girls made sure to break it up a bit. Among news this season is fuller skirts for the girls and button jackets in heavy jersey for the boys. With a quirky twist -the ethicool way.

We then decided to head down to the New View, the section featuring creative and innovative brands focusing on stylish high quality content. In fact there were several Nordic children’s fashion brands represented in this section; Petit Nord, Livly, Gudrun & Gudrun Designers Little Remix and more. We spent quite a lot of time on the Designers Little Remix stand, with their Checkmate collection for AW13. Part of the collection is a mum & daughter section, featuring incredible sophisticated and cool design. Then there are a more playful part of the collection, featuring slim fit trousers in corduroy or dark denim with a shine to them, angora jumpers with rib details, skirts and dresses with printed broken glass, warming outerwear from the chic and fashionable padded hooded coat to the ultra hip oversized button jacket. All in all quite an interesting collection we would like to see more of. Petit Nord continues their their popular accessories range. New this season was the sealskin footwear, from boots to baby and indoor shoes. Gudrun & Gudrun have a gorgeous collection, proving that wool for children is everything but itchy and boring. Also featuring this season a small eskimo cape -too cute for words! Livly were featuring their popular girls dresses, matching coats and shoes. Also worth noticing is the baby section with lots of soft essentials.

Then there was time to head back out. The stone coloured fortress made a beautiful contrast to the dark blue skye. And behind the tick, protective walls, the city of Florence with it’s tranquil cobbled streets, statues and ornaments, glamorous shop windows, tiny cafes and vibrant restaurants are ready to invite you in!
