Copenhagen, the Fashion Capital

Denmark is the world’s oldest kingdom, situated in northern Europe and is one of three Scandinavian countries. Copenhagen was founded already back in 1167 and is now a days regarded as one of the most livable cities, citing its excellent transport, quality housing, superb shopping and abundant culture.
When visiting the city of Copenhagen you can choose to stay in modern large business hotels or small boutique hotels. The restaurants of Copenhagen offers everything from simple open sandwiches to fine dining at top restaurants like Noma, famous for its Nordic fusion food. Copenhagen Fashion Week was founded in 1964, originally showcasing the best of Scandinavian fashion. The twice a year event is today both an industry trade fair and a public festival spread all over the city with a broad international focus.

Copenhagen Fashion Week is almost like an umbrella organisation for all the different shows and events showcasing adult and children’s fashion from both established fashion houses to up and coming independent designer brands and combines music, art and fashion, with a joint understanding that together turning Copenhagen in to one big Fashion Capital is the key to success.

The largest events during Copenhagen Fashion Week being the Copenhagen International Fashion Fair (CIFF), CIFFKIDS, CPH kids, CPH Vision, Terminal-2, Copenhagen Unfair and Gallery. CIFFKIDS and CPH kids being the main trade shows for children’s fashion.

CIFFKIDS is located at the well established Bella Centre, with an additional 1000 square meters to enjoy for the visitors, an extension made this season because of a growing number of exhibitors. In other news CPH kids, CPH Vision and Terminal-2 have joined forces and are now working together for a open dialogue, a recognition of the delicate balance between business and creativity and the wish to to present ground-breaking content in all of three fairs with a collaboration called the The Fair Partnership. This is one of many collaborations across the city that are a vital part of bringing the Fashion industry forward and ultimately creating a not only a fashion scene but a meeting place where both creativity and business can flourish.

The Fashion industry is also working closely with the city of Copenhagen and together they are opening up the fashion show to the public with the Copenhagen Fashion Festival, launched in 2008. Famous for happenings like ‘The World’s Greatest Catwalk’ with its 1609 meters of red carpet, the longest runway ever with more than 100.000 spectators to one fashion-show broadcasted live on TV and online, with Helena Christensen featuring as a patroness. Together they are turning Copenhagen into a Mecca for everyone from fashion hungry citizens to visitors and fashion professionals from worldwide. The festival is known for energizing the city with over 200 events including extraordinary exhibitions, cool street parties, mini concerts, competitions, trend shows and various of shopping events -open to everyone!

It’s all about creating dialog and space. CPH Kids are famous for being a launch pad for exciting new designer brands displaying their collections next to the more well established designer names with the ‘no wall’ concept, creating an unusual and excellent vibe during the show. CIFFKIDS with their extended 1000 square meters are now one of the largest Fashion Fairs in Northern Europe with a constantly growing numbers of international exhibitors. With the trendy city of Copenhagen as the setting and by joining forces and working together The Copenhagen Fashion Week, covered by international news, magazines and blogs, is presenting a people’s fair and the ultimate fashion event that no one in the industry should miss.

  1. So jealous! Stayed in a boutique hotel on Nyhavn, walking distance of Amalianborg Palace and had the time of my life. Hope to go back soon and bring my daughter (and extra luggage!) – say hello to Copenhagen for me!
