By the time December comes round, Sweden has very few hours of daylight. The sun drops out of sight in the afternoon. The first Sunday of Advent comes as an eagerly awaited sign that Christmas is approaching. Although by then, of course, the Christmas shop windows and street decorations are already in place.
We highly recommend the oldest and very traditional Christmas Market in Stockholm with a special cheery festive atmosphere, Stortorgets Julmarknad in the heart of the Old Town (Gamla Stan) at Stortorget Square (close to the Royal Palace).
The market opens the 20th of November and there is several stalls offering Swedish Christmas sweets, smoked sausages, reindeer and elk meat and other delicacies, glögg (mulled wine) and a range of Swedish handmade arts and crafts.
Stockholm is a tremendously beautiful city and the Old Town with the picturesque cobblestone streets is the perfect surroundings for the annual Christmas market.
