Where to spend Christmas in Scandinavia

If you are looking for a getaway to experience an authentic white Christmas, there are some truly fabulous cozy cabin style hotels, tucked away in Winter Wonderland far, far North… We have chosen three truly amazing hotels where you can spend an unforgettable holiday!

Scandinavian Christmas is one of the most searched topics on this blog. And I can only assume there’s many of you dreaming of the ultimate getaway this holiday season. So if you are looking for a peaceful Scandinavian Christmas or a Winter getaway with a difference, look no further.

Herangtunet Boutique Hotel
Voelbusvegen 17, 2940 Heggenes, Norway – website: herangtunet.com
Experience an authentic Norwegian hotel in unbelievable fairytale surroundings. This Christmas you can indulge in all the luxury the Herangtunet design hotel has to offer; do as much or as little as you like, sink into one of the lounge chairs in front of the stoked fireplace, enjoy gourmet cooking, or discover the crisp, white and silent wilderness on your doorstep whilst marvelling at the breathtaking starry night sky. It doesn’t get much more magical than this.

Åregarden Hotel
Årevägen 81, 837 52 Åre, Sweden – website: aregarden.com
Quaint and eclectic, this boutique hotel has welcomed guests since 1895. Situated in the heart of the Nordic fairytale ski resort, Åre – known for its picturesque village centre made up by painted little wooden houses which is hiding fabulous shopping and restaurants. Nevertheless, skiing and shopping aside; this charming hotel offers comfortable accommodation with several restaurant options, lounges and bars, all traditionally decorated for Christmas, complete with a festive (taxidermied) elk to greet you in the lobby.

Eidsbugarden Hotel
Eidsbugarden, 2985 Tyinkrysset, Norway – website: www.eidsbugarden.net
Perhaps the simplest of our recommendations in this line up – but arguably the ultimate hideaway; this mountain lodge is exclusively accessible by snow trac (by pre-arranged appointment only) offering nothing but an open snow covered mountain landscape. The kitchen offers simple yet hearty meals, you can hang out in front of the fireplace or if you’re feeling adventurous… you can channel your inner explorer and go on a guided mountain expedition. Peacefulness like never experienced before – a moon like landscape with the spectacular Northern Lights lighting up the sky.

These are three very different but all truly spectacular options. Let us know if you have any ultimate hideaway hotels to recommend. Or, if you decide to go (or have been to) any of these places – please share your experience.

As half the pleasure with a holiday is looking forward to it we thought we’d give you a head start! Happy holiday planning! x
