Easy Gingerbread Recipe makes tasty Gingerbread men and houses

This easy recipe for gingerbread men, perfect when baking with children, makes great Christmas presents and decorations.


Ingredients
Gingerbread Dough for Gingerbread Men cookies and Gingerbread House
150g salted butter
2 dl caster sugar
1 dl golden syrup
1 dl double cream
½ tsp ground ginger
½ tsp ground cloves
½ tsp black pepper
2 tsp ground cinnamon
1 tsp baking powder
450g plain flour

Decoration
Mix 500g icing sugar and 2 egg whites. Decorate with: Flaked almonds, edible silver balls, chocolate, marshmallows, generous selcetion sweets of your choice, choose your own colour theme.

Method
The Gingerbread Cookie dough need to be fridge cold so we recommend making it the day before.
Preheat the oven to 175C. Line two baking trays with greaseproof paper. Remember a great selection of cookie cutters in various of Christmas shapes.

Melt the butter, add golden syrup and sugar in a pan, until fully blended. Allow to cool.
Pour in the cream, add the spices, the baking powder and most of the flour. (You’ll need some of it when you do the baking).

Tip the dough out, knead briefly until smooth, wrap in clingfim and leave to chill in the fridge.

Roll the dough out to a 3mm thickness on a lightly floured surface. Using cutters, cut out the gingerbread men shapes and place on the baking tray, leaving a gap between them.

Bake for 9-10 minutes, or until lightly golden-brown. Leave on the tray for 10 minutes and then move to a wire rack to finish cooling. When cooled decorate with the writing icing and cake decorations. And remember to have some mulled wine for everyone enjoying the Christmas baking together.

And remember -it’s not about baking the most perfect Christmas Cookies. It’s about baking together.
