Why eat seasonal food? Seasonal food is fresher and so tends to be tastier and more nutritious and it’s a lot more affordable. By eating whats in season in the UK you help reduce the energy needed to grow and transport the food we eat and you help support the local economy. What’s in season, for April;
Fruit and vegetables
Asparagus, Morel mushrooms, Purple sprouting broccoli, Rhubarb, Sald onions, Wild Garlic.
Fish and Meat
Mackerel, Rainbow trout, Salmon, Sea bass and Spring lamb.
Asparagus is a naturally grown crop, growing in the notoriously changeable British climate, in season from 24th April to 21st June. Rich on vitamins A, B and C, fat-free and full of fibre and folic acid makes asparagus great for the heart, boosts your immune system, it’s great for skin, nails and hair. And it tastes wonderful!
We love Steamed Asparagus, soft boiled eggs and anchovy dressing. Tasteful, healthy, quick and light spring meal.
