The Sami side of life featured in Monocle

Monocle is a lifestyle magazine and website founded by Tyler Brûlé, a Canadian journalist and entrepreneur. Once described as a “meeting between Foreign Policy and Vanity Fair”, the magazine provides a globalist perspective on issues as fashion, international affairs and design. Little Scandinavian absolutely loves this magazine which serves as far more than just coffee table decoration. Highly inspirational the Monocle magazine is a monthly must read in our household. The latest issue 52 . volume 06 . April 2012 is out, and this time, interestingly enough the focus is on the Sami people; monocle.com

On top of the world: Why the Sami are in pole position. From Europe’s High North Monocle reports on a fresh model for people power – a survey of relaunched capitals and new parliaments.

We’ve talked about the Natives of the North and our how proud we are of our heritage. We’ve also recommended visiting Lapland in our Travel Section, the area inhabited by the Sami people. We’ve included Natives of the North as a main trend for 2012 on our Pinterest board, not only for fashion and design but also for a more sustainable lifestyle.

We recommend getting hold of the Monocle April issue (if you haven’t already) in your local Newsagent, to enjoy a fantastic article on how far the indigenous people of Europe’s North have once again become a thriving community (page 171 – 185).
