Lunch the Scandinavian way at Madsen in London

We met up with the lovely Anna-Claire Clendon from Alex and Alexa the other day, for the latest news and a catch up, and some proper yummy Scandinavian healthy food. Madsen, a modern Scandinavian eatery in the heart of South Kensington, offers lunch and dinner with an mouthwatering menu and excellent service. The restaurant is bright and very Scandi chic without loosing its warm atmosphere.
We even had the pleasure meeting the Danish founder, Charlotte Kruse Madsen. Educated at the École Hotelière de Lausanne in Switzerland and trained at Ida Davidsen’s in Copenhagen, she’s worked at five-star hotels across Europe. She founded the contract catering company Madsen Food in 2006, with the aim of bringing the Scandinavian food experience to London.

Anna-Claire, originally from New Zealand, joined the team at the global children’s online department store Alex and Alexa 7 months ago. We are very proud over having Alex and Alexa as our sponsor and Anna-Claire is our contact. We had a lovely catch up on the latest news, and chatting away about everything from coffee culture to social media and looking at some fantastic Spring news in store now at Alex and Alexa -in between fantastic tasting Smushis.

It wouldn’t have been Scandinavian lunch without smørbrød on the menu; Scandinavian style open sandwiches. We finished our lunch with a very naughty Kladdkaka, a Swedish traditional chocolate cake served with Madsens lingonberry ice cream. Totally divine! Already planning our next visit as I’m sure our girls would love to dine at Madsen too!
When we were there a family sat next to us. They do have a lovely menu for kids too; Chicken fingers served with pan-fried potatoes, mixed leaves and dip £ 6.75 | Frikadeller, Danish pork meatballs served with pan-fried potatoes £ 6.75 | Jude’s Vanilla ice-cream topped with chocolate sauce £ 4.75 We also recommend their Early Bird Offer, every evening between 5pm and 7pm Madsen offer 2 courses for £16.50 or 3 courses for £20.95.

Madsen use fresh, unprocessed and locally sourced ingredients, serving excellent food in a stylish yet unpretentious setting.

  1. Great photos Bianca, reminds me of how nice the food was – the rest of the A&A team are a bit jealous! This was my first time trying Scandinavian food, I will have to introduce the other Kiwi expats to it.
