Peters chair by Hans J. Wegner

The Danish furniture designer Hans J. Wegner (1914-2007) designed Peters chair and table when his good friend and colleague, Borge Mogensen, fathered a son in 1944. It was rather difficult for Wegner to find an adequate christening gift because of the war. So he decided to make one himself, and what was more appropriate than a small piece of furniture for the new borne.

Peters chair is unique because its simplicity. It consists of 4 flat parts and can assembles without the use of tools. In fact it’s so easy to assemble that a child can do it! As a result this piece of design furniture can not only serve as a sturdy high quality wooden chair but also a fun and creative assembly toy that they can take apart and rebuild again and again.

As this is a classic, a fine example of great danish design, it doesn’t come for free. But in our opinion it’s well wort the investment. Visit carlhansen.com for list of UK dealers.
